The One Degree Difference

Today is February 12, or 2/12. To most, it’s not a noteworthy date.

However, if you’re looking for symbolism, it’s there.

My spinning teacher, Angie, pointed that out this morning while pushing our class, as she always does, to dig a little deeper and give a little more. She’s the kind of teacher who, every class, reminds you of how lucky you are to have a healthy enough body, mind, and spirit to be on your bike pedaling away.

Angie, The Pilates Ninja, teaches spinning, pilates, and yoga classes in the Kenosha, WI area.

Today, on 2/12, she referenced the book 212: The Extra Degree, pointing out the synchronicity of the date and the temperature at which water boils: 212º.

“It doesn’t happen at 211º,” Angie said. “But magically at 212º you’ve got that one degree difference that separates hot water from boiling water.”

Angie’s the kind of motivator that gets you to the next level, always challenging you to set goals and work to achieve them. She often reminds us that if we *think* we can push a little harder, we’re not giving all we can. This applies to both workout class and life.

So, while this mid-winter day may seem otherwise ordinary, I’m choosing to use it as a time to figure out where my one degree difference lies: where I am and where I want to be. I hope you’ll do the same.

Xoxo,
